Frequently Asked Questions
Isn’t day care babysitting?
No. Child care should be early education at the most important level-the formative, early years. Child care staff do not just “watch” children. They follow a hands on, appropriate curriculum which encourages learning. The entire day is devoted to the healthy development of a child; socially, emotionally, intellectually and physically.
What education is needed to work in child care?
Child care centers employ staff with different educational qualifications. Directors, supervisors and teachers generally have a two- or four-year degree in early childhood or elementary education. Assistants and aides may or may not have degrees. They will usually have experience in child care along with credit hours in early childhood or a related field. Won't my child be lost in the crowd?
Not at Child Development Council of NEPA. Our groups of children are kept small so that each child is approached as an individual. In addition, we utilize Foster Grandparents and Senior Aides who are above and beyond the required staff. They provide that extra pair of hands and special touch that young children need.
What is special about Child Development Council of NEPA?
Child Development Council of NEPA employs a highly trained Center Director at each location who oversees the curriculum and activities of all age groups in their center. This person is a resource for staff training and problem solving. Child Development Council of NEPA also employs a Health and Nutrition Coordinator. We take safety, health, and nutrition very seriously in our centers and our coordinators help to ensure that quality in these areas remain high. Through our Financial Department, we constantly apply for grants to assist parents with the cost of child care and/or to enrich our programs with better equipment and materials. All of the Council strives for excellence each and every day for each and every child.
