Sample Daily Schedule

6:30 AM – 8:00 AM

Arrival Time

  • Children and parents are warmly welcomed as they arrive.
  • Tabletop and small group activities are provided.

8:00 AM – 9:00 AM

Breakfast

  • Children wash their hands before breakfast and actively help with the meal.
  • They set the tables and serve themselves.
  • Staff sit with the children, encouraging socialization and discussion in a relaxed atmosphere.
  • After breakfast, children engage in personal hygiene activities such as handwashing, tooth brushing, and bathrooming, supervised by the staff.

9:00 AM – 9:15 AM

Circle Time

  • Children gather for an informal start to the day’s activities.
  • Activities may include singing songs, introducing new children, and discussing weather, chores, or planned play activities.
  • Teachers may introduce new toys or equipment and explain care and usage rules.

9:15 AM – 10:15 AM

Free Play

  • Children play in various interest areas set up in the classroom.
  • Limits are placed on the number of children per area, but they can switch between areas.
  • Teachers actively engage, asking open-ended questions and extending learning through conversations and ideas.
  • All curriculum areas are utilized daily.
  • At the end of Free Play, children help clean up their areas, using transition techniques to move to the next activity.

10:15 AM – 10:45 AM

Outdoor Time

  • Children go outside daily, weather permitting.
  • If indoors, large muscle activities such as dancing, exercise, or riding toys are used.

10:45 AM – 11:15 AM

Planned Activity

  • Children participate in a planned activity, often centered around a theme or general interest topic.
  • Activities may include art projects, science experiments, or other small group projects.

11:15 AM – 11:30 AM

Recall Time

  • A quiet circle time where children share thoughts about their morning activities.
  • Teachers guide the conversation, and there may also be a story or song.

11:30 AM – 1:00 PM

Lunch

  • Children wash hands and help set the table for lunch, served family-style.
  • They serve themselves when able, and the meal is relaxed and conversational.
  • Staff sit with the children, encouraging appropriate discussion and manners.
  • After lunch, children help clean up, brush teeth, and use the bathroom.

1:00 PM – 2:30 PM

Rest Time

  • Mats are neatly and comfortably set out for all children.
  • Quiet music is played, and all children are encouraged to rest.
  • Nap time is not forced, and plans are made for children who do not sleep.
  • Non-sleeping children engage in quiet activities to maintain a calm environment.

2:30 PM – 3:00 PM

Afternoon Snack

  • As children wake up, they assist with cleaning blankets and engage in quiet table activities.
  • Children go to the bathroom, wash hands, and help set the table for snack.
  • Snack time is social, with teachers encouraging conversation.

3:00 PM – 5:30 PM

Afternoon Activity Time and Departure

  • Children engage in small group planned activities and free play.
  • As parents arrive, they are greeted and told something positive about their child’s day.
  • Children and parents are warmly wished a good evening.
  • After all children leave, staff ensure the center is clean and ready for the next day.
